HOW CAN WE START WORKING TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY?

HOW CAN WE START WORKING TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY?

Well what is sustainability? Sustainability is a societal goal that relates to the ability of people to safely co-exist on Earth over a long time. How does this relate to fashion or Anike Label ?

Fast fashion is a design, manufacturing, and marketing method focused on rapidly producing high volumes of clothing. Fast fashion garment production leverages trend replication and low-quality materials (like synthetic fabrics) in order to bring inexpensive styles to the end consumer. Which is the opposite of what we value here at Anike Label.

We aim to do better by minimising our contribution to raw material production, to prevent waste and dead stock which is why we aim to operate on a pre-order basis. We are always improving our sourcing and supply chain practices in order to ensure our garments are made in the best possible working conditions and that the materials we use will have the lowest possible impact on the environment.

A lot of people tend to have concerns as to why Slow Fashion is so expensive. However we have concerns on how Fast Fashion manages to be so cheap.Ethical fashion brands pay their workers fair wages , we also ensure the working conditions are safe , suitable working hours.  Another reason why sustainable fashion is so expensive is we  reduce waste by investing in small-scale production lines or made-to-order options.

Ways you can contribute to helping slow fashion

  • Shop with a slow fashion brand from time to time
  • Share a slow fashion brand with friends, family, colleagues
  • Educate yourself on the difference between fast and slow fashion
  • Donating your unwanted clothes to a good cause, rather than leaving them hanging in your wardrobe, will help others to be more sustainable; they will invest in your old pieces, rather than buying something new.
  • As a conscious customer, you can contribute to using more sustainable methods of consuming fashion by renting clothes rather than buying them.
  • Buy less clothes, but with a higher quality that last longer
  •  Pay attention to your washing practices to extend the life cycle of the garments.
